The first pair of scrubs I ever bought were for clinicals back in my college days. They were the required navy blue color and as standard as they come: unflattering, made out of stiff material, and expensive.

I rationalized back then that I would wear them enough to get my money’s worth out of them, so I bit the bullet and spent the money. To be fair, I was true to my word. I wore those suckers for four years, resigned to the fact that this uncomfortable, overpriced uniform I didn’t even want to wear was to be my garb for the next forty years, Lord willing.

As the months went on, the color began to fade from a rich navy blue to a dull one. Loose threads became more frequent and slowly but surely, they were falling apart.
