“Driver picks the music, shotgun shuts his cakehole.” ~Dean Winchester, Supernatural
This week’s theme has been cars. Old cars, new cars, riding in stranger’s cars, the whole kit and caboodle.
You see, I took in my Jeep last Sunday night to get some rust on the doorframe fixed. Since then, I had been using Uber to get around. I had never used Uber before, so it was quite an adventure in itself.
I was a little wary at first. The idea of scheduling a ride that may or may not be accepted by a stranger was slightly unsettling, especially when I was commuting to work and had a schedule to keep. However, I was pleasantly surprised by my Ubering experience. Each driver I had, over the span of several days, was prompt, friendly, and made sure I got to where I needed to be in a timely manner.
If you read my post from earlier this week, you know that I got some news about my Jeep that essentially meant that I should start looking for a new vehicle. I loved my Jeep, but there were drawbacks that made themselves all the more apparent with my career as a traveler, namely the lack of fuel economy and space. So, I decided to find a vehicle that was a little more accommodating towards my lifestyle and would, God willing, last me a long time.
Well, ladies and gents, I found it. Introducing, my 2014 Nissan Rogue Select!

Compared to my Jeep, this gal is a big booty Judy (I’m not one to name my cars, but if I were, that name would fit like a glove), so I’m still working on getting comfortable with the new wheels. Overall though, I don’t feel I’ve had to sacrifice much (save for the Jeep wave. Sigh). If anything, I’ve gained exactly what I wanted: better gas mileage and more space. And I was able to do it without being indebted a single cent. That’s a win in my book.
It still feels odd not seeing the Jeep in the driveway, but I have a feeling that it won’t be my last time sitting behind the wheel of a Wrangler. Who knows what the future holds, right?
Also, in honor of this week’s theme, here is a code to get $5 off your next four rides with Uber on me: laurenb32863ui! Enjoy your travels and memory-making!
