Segway tourists. Sidewalk musicians. Dogs walking their owners. Bros passing a football back and forth.
Welcome to the National Mall.
I totally get why people love living in D.C. It is insane how much there is to do, eat, see, and experience here. As I people-watch on the Mall’s lawn, I can’t help but wonder if the locals have lost the novelty of their historically-centric home. Determining from the way they stay, I imagine not.
There isn’t anything particularly exciting to report at the conclusion of this week. Perhaps that’s an indication that I adjusted well? I will admit, a sense of normalcy has begun to set in, now having carved out a routine. Strangely, two weeks seems too short for how comfortable I have come to feel here.
Then again, I’m trying not to get too comfortable. If I allow myself to snuggle into this little life I have pitched up, I’ll forget my time here is literally numbered. I’d hate to move on and when reminiscing back on this time, realize it was wasted.
So, I will go! Do! Read! Write! Learn! Discover! Meet! Attempt! Fail! Succeed!
Part of this I already did this weekend through visiting the Smithsonian of American History and the Smithsonian of Natural History! Both of these places I have been to before, but it has been years, so I felt as if I was revisiting a mostly-forgotten dream.
The exhibit I was looking forward to most was the Ruby Slippers at the Smithsonian of American History, but alas, they were off display for repair. Oh, how my little heart broke at this realization, for The Wizard of Oz is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. Top Ten to be sure.
Despite this slight disappointment, I had a great time exploring both of these places. I cannot wait to seek out more of what Washington D.C. has to offer in the upcoming weeks. Even more so, I cannot wait to share them with you.
